Description – Volunteer Coordinator

The Chaplain appoints the Volunteer Coordinator for a one year renewable appointment with the term running from one Annual General Meeting to the next AGM.
The Board of Directors will review the position as the need arises.
The Volunteer Coordinator works with the Chaplain to select, train, co-ordinate and supervise the volunteer staff.
In the absence of the Chaplain, the Volunteer Coordinator is in charge of the day to day operation of the Seafarers’ Centre and the coordination of volunteers visiting the ships.
The Volunteer Coordinator can claim for mileage.
Reads log and initials it;
Maintains the volunteers on-call schedule at least two weeks in advance; and
Attends weekly staff meeting.
Interviews prospective volunteers with the Chaplain;
Orients new volunteers and goes through Watch Keeper’s Handbook with them;
Activates phone cards;
Controls the issuing of keys to volunteers;
Keeps “Watch Keepers and Drivers Information Form” up to date;
Monitors the completion of the “Volunteer On the Job Training Form”;
Periodically reviews the Watch Keeper’s Handbook to ensure that it is current;
In the absence of the Chaplain talks with Ship’s Agents to update vessel report; and
Does any other tasks agreed to in discussion with the Chaplain.
The Volunteer Coordinator is accountable to the Chaplain or, in his absence, the Chair of the Board of Directors.
In the absence of the Volunteer Coordinator, the Chaplain assumes the Volunteer Coordinator’s responsibilities.
